This session will explore the connections among gender, sexuality, and technology from the perspective of a transwoman advocating for online gender equality. The first half of the session will focus on personal experiences of using hookup apps as an out transwoman and the role that gender identity plays in sexual fun, desirability, and online eroticism. The second half of the session will focus on lessons from being out and trans in the app world in terms of discrimination, violence, safety and security. Some of the questions this session will touch on include: In what ways is technology affecting and shaping the sexual lives of transpeople particularly transwomen? What possibilities for gender and sexual liberation does the app world promise for transgender women? In what ways can transwomen protect their well-being while being out, free, and online as trans?
